Define your query set

Build a list of 50-100 queries that buyers in your category ask AI. Include "best [category]", "recommend a [product]", "compare [your brand] vs [competitor]", and specific use-case questions.

Execute each query on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. Record whether your brand is mentioned, at what position, and with what sentiment.

For each query, record all brand mentions — yours and competitors'. This is how you calculate SOV: your mentions / total category mentions in AI answers.

Break it down: your ChatGPT SOV vs. Perplexity SOV vs. Gemini SOV. Differences reveal where to focus optimization — you may dominate one platform and be invisible on another.

Report weekly trends
